Analog Thumbsticks

Switch Pro uses standard full-sized ALPS 10kΩ potentiometers. Joy-Cons use miniaturized ultra-flat slide potentiometers with flexible graphite ribbon tracks under a rubber skirt, which are historically vulnerable to airborne particulate contamination and contact wear.

Triggers & Bumpers

ZL and ZR are digital microswitches (binary 0% or 100% actuation), unlike the continuous analog stroke triggers found on PlayStation and Xbox controllers.

Joy-Con Stick Drift (Graphite Track Abrasion)
Character walks forward or camera slowly spins on its own when the Joy-Con stick is centered.
Diagnostic Check: Inspect the resting offset on our Controller Deadzone Test. Joy-Con sticks have very small internal clearances; lift the rubber dust skirt gently with a toothpick and apply short bursts of compressed air or electrical contact cleaner. If graphite tracks are worn, install Hall Effect replacement sticks.
Digital vs. Analog Trigger Confusion
ZL and ZR triggers show only 0% or 100% without smooth progressive values.
Diagnostic Check: This is completely normal and expected. Nintendo Switch controllers use digital click switches for ZL and ZR, not progressive analog potentiometers.
Joy-Cons Recognized as Two Separate Controllers on PC
Left and Right Joy-Cons appear in separate slots on PC instead of forming a single combined controller.
Diagnostic Check: By hardware design, each Joy-Con is an independent Bluetooth device. To combine Left and Right Joy-Cons into a single virtual gamepad for PC gaming, use third-party software like BetterJoy.

How to Connect Switch Pro & Joy-Con to PC or Mac

  1. 1Switch Pro Controller via USB-C: Connect directly to your PC or Mac using a USB-C data cable. Chrome and Edge detect the Pro Controller natively.
  2. 2Switch Pro Controller via Bluetooth: With the controller unplugged, press and hold the small circular Sync button on the top edge next to the USB-C port until the bottom green player LEDs cycle back and forth.
  3. 3Joy-Con Bluetooth Pairing: Disconnect Joy-Cons from the Switch console. Hold the small circular Sync button on the flat rail edge of each Joy-Con until the green LEDs cycle.
  4. 4Pair on PC: In your computer Bluetooth settings, pair "Pro Controller" or "Joy-Con (L)" / "Joy-Con (R)". Then press any button on this page to activate testing.
